Greg Ross, a young Canadian, arrives in 1960s Christchurch, New Zealand with his family. As he learns the New Zealand way he is drawn to the natural beauty of our high country and through trial and error sets about honing his outdoor skills. The last of a dying breed that earn their living in our back country as the venison and possum boom draws to an end. As the industry falters he eventually utilises the outdoor skills he has gained and joins the New Zealand Forest Service working on back country track and hut maintainance. The years spent roaming the South Island high country, sometimes in isolation, also allowed Greg to hone his writng skills giving rise to this stunningly discriptive biography of his life and death adventures in our rugged back country and the lessons learned along the way.
