About the Author

Catherine Dempsey lives on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in Flatrock, a small town near St. John's. She and her husband began raising bees in 2012, starting with two hives. Soon she was involved with establishing the Newfoundland and Labrador Beekeeping Association, building an active network of beekeepers across the province. A former elementary school teacher, Catherine loves sharing information about the joys and challenges involved with keeping bees. DAPHNE'S BEES is her first book. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Veselina Tomova graduated from Leipzig's School of Graphic Art and Book Design before moving to Newfoundland. A graphic designer and award-winning artist, she has illustrated books in Germany, Bulgaria, and Canada. She divides her time between St. John's, Newfoundland, where she lives in a small house overlooking the harbour, and Rusalya, Bulgaria, where she tends her family's vegetable garden and enjoys the antics of Bucky the dog and Ginger the cat. Her book The Wall & the Wind was included in the Globe & Mail's top 100 books of 2020.
