About the Author

Gillian Torckler was that annoying kid in class who always asked 'why?'. That curiosity led to a career in science and she still loves to explore new ideas and learn new facts. She writes all kinds of books, but she particularly enjoys writing fact-based books, like this one. As a child, Darryl Torckler was fascinated by sea creatures. As a teenager, he decided to become a professional photographer and began to photograph landscapes and animals. Darryl's photographs have appeared in magazines and books and won many awards all over the world. Together, Gillian and Darryl have created 12 books for both adults and children. Many feature New Zealand wildlife, and the habitats in which they live.
