This workbook provides a range of activities for a full Social Studies teaching programme typically taught at Year 9 or 10 that specifically covers the Achievement Objective ‘Understand how the ideas and actions of people in the past have had a significant impact on people’s lives’ from Level 5 of The New Zealand Curriculum, Social Sciences. The following topics are covered. Voices of social change A New Zealand context – Kate Sheppard – Rua Kēnana – Te Puea Hērangi An international context – Nelson Mandela – Martin Luther King Jnr – Mahatma Gandhi Anzac Day and Gallipoli Agents for a change. Using a variety of activities to suit different learning styles, the workbook also features: key social studies concepts – historical significance, continuity and change, and historical empathy social studies knowledge, skills and competencies key social studies vocabulary. The workbook can be used in the classroom throughout the year, or for homework and home study. The write-on format keeps student notes and work together, providing a useful revision tool for tests and other assessments.
