Year 3 Science Workbook introduces Level Two of The New Zealand Curriculum – Science. It is set out in an attractive, write-on format, to engage young learners (typically, 7-year-old and 8-year-old students) and to stimulate their interest in the world around us. This is the first of the six Start Right Science Workbooks that together cover Levels Two, Three and Four of The New Zealand Curriculum – Science. Year 3 Science Workbook has the following features. It covers all aspects of the overarching ‘Nature of Science’ strand from The New Zealand Curriculum – Science, helping students develop an understanding of the essential concepts of science. It is divided into the curriculum contextual strands for Science, namely ‘Living World’, ‘Planet Earth and Beyond’, ‘Physical World’ and ‘Material World’. Each section introduces and explains a scientific idea, and then gives experiments, diagrams, questions and puzzles that reinforce that idea. It provides a wide variety of contexts for learning. Extensive use is made of examples from Aotearoa New Zealand to illustrate concepts. Experiments and tests are designed so students can do them at home or in school using everyday materials. Group activities are included – these can be adapted for a student to do alone. Answers are provided at the back of the book.
